New HMRC change starting in April

There is just six months to go until sole traders and landlords with qualifying income over £50,000 will be required to use Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax. The launch on April 6, 2026 marks a significant and ultimately time-saving change in how these individuals will need to keep digital records and report their income to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

HMRC said customers will need compatible software, we can find a solution for you as there isn’t a one size fits all. The software will give you real-time estimates of your tax bill throughout the year, helping with cash flow planning and avoiding nasty surprises. If you’re already using spreadsheets you still need a compatible software to meet the new requirements.

MTD is about spreading your tax admin throughout the year instead of that once a year scramble to complete your Self Assessment return.

If you have any questions or would like support with getting ready for MTD, we’re here to help every step of the way—please feel free to get in touch.
